Trevor Dunkley confesses to 1998 murder of Patricia Lashley
Trevor Dunkley, 66, has pleaded guilty to the 1998 murder of Patricia Lashley and the prevention of her lawful burial. The confession comes nearly 28 years after Lashley, a mother of seven, disappeared from Dudley in the West Midlands.
Dunkley admitted to attacking Lashley in her bed following a night shift, an act he described as being driven by a “cloud of ira” (cloud of rage). He told investigators that after the killing, he hid her body in a cellar for approximately a year. When he eventually moved, he disposed of her decomposed remains by placing her skeleton in domestic waste bins.
At Wolverhampton Crown Court, defense counsel noted that the case relies heavily on Dunkley’s own confession to the police, as no physical evidence remained due to the passage of time and decomposition. Lashley, who was 33 at the time of her disappearance, had previously been reported as having left her home voluntarily, a theory that persisted for decades. Dunkley has been remanded in custody, with his sentencing scheduled for November 6.
