Tampa Bay Rays defeat San Diego Padres to reach 80 wins

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the San Diego Padres 9-4, becoming the first team in the American League to reach 80 wins this season. The victory brings the Rays' record to 80-54.

Offensive leaders Yandy Díaz and Cedric Mullins each hit a home run and recorded two RBIs. Díaz’s 20th home run of the season moved him into fifth place in franchise history with 119 career homers and fourth in RBIs with 470. The Rays secured a decisive advantage in the fourth inning, scoring five runs to lead 6-0.

Shane McClanahan earned the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings and striking out four. Chandler Simpson contributed two hits, two runs, and two stolen bases. For the Padres, Jackson Merrill hit a two-run home run, but the team finished with only four hits.
