Târgoviște hosts major religious celebration for Saint Niphon

Thousands of faithful are gathering in Târgoviște to celebrate the feast of Saint Hierarch Niphon, the spiritual protector of the city. The religious event features the veneration of the saint's relics, alongside the relics of Saint Filofteia, which have been brought from Curtea de Argeș specifically for the occasion.

The celebrations include a Holy Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral and a solemn procession involving thousands of young people from the Târgoviște Archdiocese. Beyond the liturgical aspects, the event serves as a platform for recognizing academic excellence, with awards being presented to students and teachers who achieved distinction in national Olympiads and the Baccalaureate exam.

Historical accounts highlight Saint Niphon's significance as the first saint canonized on Romanian territory. Originally from Greece, he served as Patriarch of Constantinople before being invited by Radu the Great to reorganize the Church in Wallachia.
