Târgu Jiu advances major infrastructure projects: underground tunnel and EU‑funded community facilities

The municipality of Târgu Jiu is moving forward with two major development initiatives. A new underground passage will be built in front of the Tudor Vladimirescu National College, with traffic kept flowing on each lane during construction. Mayor Marcel Romanescu said the first work will start at the round‑about near the college after final approval from the National Investment Company.

Separately, the city has secured over 6.8 million lei of European Regional Development Fund financing for two projects: a multifunctional social‑services centre in the former Grivița thermal plant and a modern sports hall at the Constantin Brăiloiu Arts High School. The projects were prepared by the local GAL Târgu Jiu association and aim to improve social assistance and sports facilities for residents.
