Moldova and Romania approve transport infrastructure agreement

The Moldovan government has approved a law to ratify an agreement with Romania for the development of transport infrastructure. A central component is the continued construction of a road bridge over the Prut River between Ungheni, Moldova, and Ungheni, Romania. This project aims to connect Moldova's western road network to the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). Romania will fund the bridge construction, connected infrastructure, and a border crossing point, with investments estimated at approximately 56 million euros. Moldova will fund a 500-meter highway section, estimated at 5 million euros.

In Chișinău, officials are accelerating the construction of a new water intake station at Vadul lui Vodă as part of the 'Open Urban Development Program'. This project, supported by a 14 million euro grant from the German government via KfW, includes a major water pipeline connecting Chișinău, Strășeni, and Călărași to improve potable water access.

Additionally, Moldova is considering extending temporary protection for displaced persons from Ukraine until March 1, 2028, due to the ongoing conflict. On the economic front, Moldova received approximately 1.4 billion euros in external financial assistance in 2025, with the European Union serving as the primary partner. Significant funds were directed toward the energy, economy, and education sectors.
