Târgu Jiu public transport reaches 7 million annual trips
Public transport in Târgu Jiu, Romania, reached approximately 7 million trips in 2025, following significant investments in urban mobility. Mayor Marcel Romanescu attributed this growth to the successful implementation of modernization projects funded by approximately 50 million euros in European funds.
The transformation was driven by three major initiatives: the acquisition of a new fleet of modern, eco-friendly trolleybuses; the modernization of the transport infrastructure and network; and the implementation of the INFOTRAFIC smart traffic management center.
Local authorities intend to continue expanding the public transport network across the entire municipality to improve access for all neighborhoods and provide a sustainable alternative to personal vehicle use.
