Târgu Mureș high schools to merge through absorption

The technological high school ‘Aurel Persu’ in Târgu Mureș will lose its legal personality and be absorbed by the ‘Gheorghe Șincai’ Technological High School. This reorganization, approved by an order from the Ministry of Education and Research, aims to consolidate the school network for the 2026–2027 academic year.

According to Antoaneta Maria Rauca, director of the ‘Gheorghe Șincai’ high school, the merger was necessitated by the student population at ‘Aurel Persu’ falling below 500. While the ‘Aurel Persu’ structure will continue to operate within its current buildings, all administrative, financial, and leadership functions will be managed by ‘Gheorghe Șincai’.

Local officials suggest the merger could lead to significant budget savings. Horațiu Lobonț, director of the Schools Directorate at the Târgu Mureș City Hall, noted that consolidating the management of assets and utilities could save approximately 500,000 lei per month, particularly regarding winter utility costs.
