Trial begins for Gabriel Zapata Enríquez in Tamaulipas abuse case

The trial against Gabriel Alejandro Zapata Enríquez began on Monday at the Centro Integral de Justicia in Ciudad Mante, Tamaulipas. Zapata Enríquez is accused of sexual abuse against his daughter, Dafne Zapata Quintos, in a case that dates back to 2019.

Zapata Enríquez appeared via Zoom at the request of his defense team to avoid potential confrontations due to the high media profile of the case. His lawyer, Omar Enrique Fuentes Medina, stated they intend to prove his client's innocence and will challenge the sufficiency of the evidence presented by the prosecution.

The legal proceedings carry heightened significance following the recent death of Dafne Zapata Quintos on July 16 at a summer camp in Ciudad Madero. At the time of her death, she was 13 years old and was reportedly preparing to testify in the case. Despite her passing, the judicial process continues using previously collected investigations and statements.
