Trian Fund Management has no immediate plans for Wendy’s takeover bid
Trian Fund Management, led by Nelson Peltz, currently has no plans to launch a take-private bid for Wendy’s, according to sources familiar with the matter. Trian is a significant shareholder in the fast-food chain, holding approximately 16% of the company.
The announcement follows earlier reports that Trian was preparing a bid alongside a consortium of investors, including BlueFive Capital and Flynn Group. While news of a potential takeover previously drove Wendy’s stock to a nine-month high, the company’s shares fell more than 14% in after-hours trading following the news that a bid is not imminent.
Sources indicate that Trian maintains concerns regarding Wendy’s strategic direction, valuation multiples, and recent financial performance, including declining sales and lower net income. The pause in takeover interest may provide Wendy’s CEO Bob Wright more time to implement a five-point turnaround plan aimed at addressing quality and cost issues.
