Triathlon World Cup Rio: French Georgenthum top 20, Brazilian Messias fifth

French triathlete Paul Georgenthum, 26, representing ASPTT Mulhouse, finished 20th in the Rio de Janeiro leg of the World Cup series, matching his best result on the circuit since late 2024. He said a weak swim off Copacabana cost him early positions, but he climbed to 17th on the bike before ending 20th overall. Georgenthum will race again in Paraguay on 9 August.

Brazilian Manoel Messias placed fifth, the highest finish by a Brazilian in the event, recording a time of 51:25 despite a rib injury. He posted the fastest run split (13:52) and moved up from outside the top‑40 during the race. The men's podium was topped by USA’s Braxton Legg (50:56), with Dylan McCullough (NZ) second and Mitch Kolkman (Netherlands) third.
