Tribal women in Jharkhand tie rakhis to trees to pledge nature conservation

In the Sunsunia forest of Chakulia, located in the East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, hundreds of tribal women celebrated Raksha Bandhan by tying rakhis to Sal trees. Led by Padma Shri awardee Jamuna Tudu, also known as ‘Lady Tarzan’, the women performed traditional rituals, including prayers and aarti, treating the trees as brothers to symbolize a pledge for their protection.

The event featured traditional Mandar and Dhamsa music and collective dancing. Participants took a formal vow to protect forests and wildlife, prevent illegal logging, and actively participate in environmental conservation. Jamuna Tudu emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in addressing shrinking forest areas and urged the public to engage in increased tree planting to safeguard forest resources.
