Tribeca Festival data exposure leaks 666,369 records

A cybersecurity researcher, Jeremiah Fowler, discovered an unencrypted backup file belonging to the Tribeca Festival that exposed 666,369 records. The data, which spans from 2019 to 2026, was found via an IoT search engine.

The exposure includes a folder containing contact information for high-profile Hollywood figures, such as Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Jennifer Lawrence, and Angelina Jolie. The leaked details include names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses for these individuals, as well as certain assistants and publicists. While the festival stated that most of the data consisted of public-facing business contact information and disputed the severity of the leak, the breach highlights a multi-year exposure of sensitive information.

Separately, the festival's 25th anniversary is being marked by the Netflix documentary ‘Tribeca 25’, directed by Matt Tyrnauer. The film explores the festival's origins as an act of defiance by co-founders Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal to revitalize Lower Manhattan following the September 11 attacks.
