Fernando Ónega appointed Hijo Adoptivo of Lugo

On 30 July the Lugo City Council approved the appointment of veteran journalist Fernando Ónega (born 1947 in Mosteiro, Pol) as Hijo Adoptivo (Adoptive Son) of the city. The ceremony was held at the Círculo de las Artes and was attended by local officials, the regional delegate Alfonso Villares, and national politicians including People's Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who said, “Spanish democracy would not be the same without Fernando’s words.” Mayor Elena Candia presented the diploma and commemorative plaques, describing the act as a necessary tribute and a gesture of justice. Ónega’s widow Ángela Rodrigo and his children were also present, and the event featured speeches, musical moments and an ovation, underscoring his pivotal role in Spain’s transition to democracy.
