Tricity rental market faces surge due to double student cohort

A double cohort of students is significantly impacting the rental market in the Tricity area (Gdańsk and Gdynia). Due to the surge in demand, the search for accommodation began as early as mid-August.

Real estate expert Joanna Ekert notes that rising maintenance costs, including administrative fees and utilities, are forcing landlords to adjust rental rates. To manage the risks associated with renting to students without stable incomes, professional landlords are increasingly implementing stricter measures. These include higher security deposits—often equivalent to two or three months' rent—requiring parental guarantees to ensure financial liquidity, and utilizing occasional lease agreements to protect property owners' rights.
