Trier court convicts restaurateur in 140,000 euro COVID-19 fraud case

A court in Trier has convicted a 32-year-old restaurateur from the Trier-Saarburg district for defrauding the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) of more than 140,000 euros. The defendant operated a fixed and two mobile COVID-19 testing stations during the pandemic and falsely billed for more than 12,000 tests that were never actually conducted.

The total criminal damage is estimated at 142,813.91 euros. The presiding judge, Iris Scholten, delivered the verdict following evidence that the individual exploited lax regulations during the 2021/2022 pandemic period to secure state-subsidized funds.
