Trier offers end-of-life care courses for caregivers
In Trier, Germany, specialized ‘last help’ courses are being offered to assist individuals in supporting loved ones through the dying process. Led by Ingrid Stork and Annika Robling, a nurse at the Trier Hospice, these sessions aim to provide practical and emotional guidance for caregivers.
The training covers physical changes in the dying process, such as altered breathing patterns, and emphasizes the importance of communication, noting that hearing is often the last sense to fade. The courses seek to encourage people to remain present with the dying rather than turning away due to fear or uncertainty.
Participants, including those caring for relatives with Alzheimer's or terminal illnesses, attend the courses to find community, exchange experiences, and gain the tools necessary to navigate the challenges of end-of-life companionship.
