Trieste opens new Museum of Istrian, Fiuman and Dalmatian Civilization

The Museum of Istrian, Fiuman and Dalmatian Civilization has opened a new exhibition space at Magazzino 26 in the Porto Vecchio area of Trieste. The expansion aims to strengthen the role of the Regional Institute for Istrian, Fiuman and Dalmatian Culture (IRCI) and provide more adequate spaces for its institutional activities.

The museum is dedicated to the history, culture, and memory of the communities of the eastern Adriatic. Beyond documenting the post-war exodus of approximately 300,000 people, the exhibition explores the daily life and civilization of these territories prior to their abandonment. A central feature of the collection includes household goods and personal items belonging to exiles, which were saved from loss and are now displayed to provide historical and symbolic testimony.

The project also involves the historical headquarters on via Torino, which will be repurposed to host temporary exhibitions, allowing for greater breadth in displaying the institute's heritage. Admission to the museum is free until December 31, 2026.
