Tírig forest fire stabilized in Castellón after burning 754 hectares
The forest fire in Tírig, Castellón, has been stabilized following several days of intense firefighting efforts. Emergency services reported that the fire has burned approximately 754 hectares across a 22.8-kilometer perimeter, affecting the municipalities of Tírig and Catí.
As a result of the stabilization, the Generalitat Valenciana has downgraded the emergency level from Situation 2 to Situation 1. This progress has allowed for the return of approximately 700 residents from Catí who had been previously evacuated. While the fire is no longer advancing freely, authorities note that it is not yet fully extinguished, and crews remain on-site to secure the perimeter and prevent reactivations.
The firefighting operation involved a massive deployment, including the Military Emergencies Unit (UME), aerial means, and hundreds of ground personnel from various provincial and regional services. Officials continue to monitor the area closely due to high wind forecasts.
