Trigno River dredging begins following bridge collapse

Dredging and reclamation operations are set to begin on the final stretch of the Trigno River following the collapse of the Statale 16 bridge on April 2. These preliminary works are essential to ensure safety by checking for and removing potential unexploded ordnance before crews begin searching for the missing fisherman, Domenico Racanati, and working to reconstruct the collapsed bridge.

To facilitate these operations, the Mayor of Montenero di Bisaccia, Simona Contucci, signed an ordinance on September 4 strictly prohibiting unauthorized access, transit, or parking within the construction areas and the riverbed. The measure is effective immediately and will remain in place until the works are completed. Local police and law enforcement will monitor the site to ensure the safety of workers and the public.

The reclamation and dredging tasks have been assigned to BCM Service Srl by the Molise Region. These efforts follow a coordination meeting held at the Campobasso Prefecture to address the logistical and procedural requirements for opening the site and conducting searches in the riverbed.
