Trikala: 60-year-old livestock farmer found dead

A 60-year-old livestock farmer was found dead on Saturday, October 24, in the Pheneada region of Trikala. The man was discovered in a livestock pen located on the road from Pheneada to Damasi, near the Pheneos bridge, in a facility that did not belong to him.

The death follows a series of significant setbacks for the farmer. On the night of Friday, October 23, a fire broke out at his own livestock unit in Pheneada, causing extensive damage and the death of a significant number of sheep. Additionally, his flock had recently been affected by bluetongue disease, which caused substantial livestock losses and placed the family under severe financial strain. There were reported difficulties regarding potential compensation for the diseased animals.

While initial indications from local reports suggest the possibility of suicide, authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of his death. The body was transported to the Farkadona Health Center and was scheduled for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
