Trikala cultural heritage restoration program exceeds 16 million euros
The Greek Ministry of Culture is implementing a comprehensive program to protect and promote the cultural heritage of Trikala, with projects exceeding 16 million euros. The initiative aims to create a unified network of monuments and cultural infrastructure.
Key developments include the creation of the Timeless Archaeological Museum in the TAXYP building and ongoing restoration work on ancient, Byzantine, and Ottoman monuments. A significant addition to the plan is the conservation, restoration, and repositioning of the Lycurgus Mosaic—a unique piece of Roman mosaic art—within the archaeological site of Ancient Trikke.
Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni stated that the program highlights the city's historical continuity, ranging from Ancient Trikke and the Byzantine Castle to the 16th-century Ottoman complex of Osman Sah. The project also includes the restoration of works by the architect Sinan, such as the temenos and the mausoleum of Osman Sah, to strengthen the region's cultural and developmental prospects.
