Trilha Verde da Maria Fumaça promotes tourism in Minas Gerais

The Trilha Verde da Maria Fumaça in Minas Gerais is a 92-kilometer route designed for hiking, cycling, and nature tourism. Spanning approximately three days, the trail follows a former railway branch that once connected Diamantina to Corinto, blending historical heritage with natural landscapes.

The route traverses the Jequitinhonha and São Francisco river valleys and crosses the Serra do Espinhaço, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It passes through the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest biomes, featuring waterfalls, caves, and archaeological sites dating back 5,000 years. The trail is divided into four sections: Diamantina–Barão, Barão–Conselheiro Mata, Conselheiro Mata–Rodeador, and Rodeador–Monjolos.

Visitors can access various services, including food, lodging, and camping, while passing through municipalities such as Diamantina, Datas, Gouveia, and Monjolos. The trail also integrates with the Transespinhaço long-distance route and passes near protected areas like the Biribiri State Park and the Sempre-Vivas National Park.
