Trillo nuclear power plant conducts annual emergency drill
The Trillo nuclear power plant in Guadalajara, Spain, has completed its mandatory annual emergency drill in accordance with its Interior Emergency Plan (PEI). The exercise involved the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) Emergency Response Organization and the Government Sub-delegation in Guadalajara.
To simulate the unavailability of the CSN's main emergency room, the CSN operated from the Salem 2 backup emergency room located at the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) headquarters in Torrejón de Ardoz. The drill included several simulated scenarios: a fire in a diesel generator enclosure, a steam generator tube rupture, a total loss of external electrical power leading to a reactor shutdown, and a workplace accident involving internal contamination requiring medical transport to Gregorio Marañón Hospital.
During the simulation, the CSN monitored plant status and coordinated with the Operational Coordination Center (CECOP) in Guadalajara to recommend radiological protection measures, including access control within a 10 km zone.
