Trinamool Congress faces court battles over political violence and bank account freeze in West Bengal

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) approached the Calcutta High Court alleging a synchronized attack on its political workers and opposition party offices in West Bengal, citing incidents such as egg‑pelting and assaults on incumbent MLAs and MPs. The party sought an urgent hearing to address the alleged violence and to obtain court directions for preventing further attacks.

In a separate filing, the TMC challenged the freezing of three HDFC Bank accounts linked to the party, which together held roughly Rs 440 crore. The freeze was ordered after a former West Bengal sports minister, claiming a rebel faction within the party was trying to seize its funds, wrote to the bank. The Calcutta High Court declined the TMC’s request for an urgent hearing on this plea, leaving the accounts frozen pending further proceedings.
