Trinamool Congress faces mass defections as MP Sayani Ghosh quits

Following the recent change of government in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is experiencing a wave of defections. Sources say around 20 Lok Sabha members have joined a rebel faction, including MP Sayani Ghosh of Jadavpur and Sudip Banerjee. Two Rajya Sabha members, Sukhen Shekhar Roy and Susmita Dev, have also resigned from the party.

The internal rebellion erupted after the party expelled leaders Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandeep Saha. Senior MP Kakoli Ghosh later convened a meeting at politician Bhupendra Yadav's residence, after which a letter bearing 20 signatures was handed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding a separate group within the party. The resignations came while TMC chief Mamata Banerjee was in Delhi attending an INDIA alliance meeting, delivering a significant political setback for her leadership.
