Trinamool Congress faces split as rebel MPs seize Delhi office

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is confronting an internal crisis after its defeat in the West Bengal assembly election. A group of about 20 dissident Lok Sabha MPs, led by Barasat MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, met twice in Delhi with West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari to plan a breakaway. The rebels say they have secured the two‑thirds majority required under the anti‑defection law and have sent a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking separate seating as an independent bloc aligned with the NDA.

At the same time, the party lost its de facto headquarters in the capital when MP Partha Bhowmick relocated from the government bungalow on Dr Rajendra Prasad Road to a flat in Hooghly. The bungalow had served as the party’s main operational base in Delhi, and its vacancy leaves TMC without a permanent office as it navigates the parliamentary revolt.
