Trinamool Congress rebels meet BJP leaders, 20 MPs back ruling NDA alliance

A faction of Trinamool Congress (TMC) lawmakers met senior BJP leaders at a residence in New Delhi shortly after TMC Senate MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy submitted his resignations. Reports say more than ten rebel MPs, including Prasun Banerjee, Sharmila Ghosh, Jagdish Chandra Barman Basunia, Aroop Chakravarty, Kalipada Soren, Asit Kumar Mal, and others, attended the closed‑door meeting.

Senior TMC figure Kaku Ghosh Dastidar announced that about 20 rebel MPs have written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla confirming their decision to support the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP. The letter was said to reflect a consensus among the dissenting legislators and aligns with the party’s growing internal turmoil, as Mamata Banerjee seeks to strengthen opposition unity through the India alliance.

The developments highlight a deepening split within the TMC, raising questions about the party’s parliamentary cohesion and its role in national opposition politics.
