Trinamool Congress leaders face multiple arrests and legal setbacks
The Madhya Pradesh High Court lifted an interim stay on the arrest warrant against Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee in a defamation case, clearing the way for his detention. In West Bengal, former minister Udayan Guha was arrested on allegations of collecting “cut money” from beneficiaries of a central housing scheme, while TMC teachers’ wing leader Maidul Islam was taken into custody for alleged abetment to suicide in a 2022 case. Police also paraded several TMC leaders, including Islam, in handcuffs through the streets of Falta, prompting accusations of human‑rights violations. Amid the turmoil, a TMC office in the Domjur area of Howrah was set ablaze by locals over alleged illegal activities, and party chief Mamata Banerjee joined a hawkers’ protest march in Kolkata.
