Trinamool Congress sees senior leaders quit amid internal crisis

Former West Bengal minister Manas Bhunia announced his resignation from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), sending a letter to party supremo Mamata Banerjee and relinquishing all party posts. Bhunia, a seven‑time MLA from Sabang and former Rajya Sabha MP, declined to give reasons for his departure and said he had not yet decided whether to join another party.

Former TMC Member of Parliament Sushmita Dev also quit the party and resigned from the Rajya Sabha, citing an "unprecedented exodus" and internal turmoil following the party’s electoral setback in West Bengal. Dev said she sought advice from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma before resigning and hinted at a possible future alignment with the BJP, though she made no formal announcement.

Both resignations are being portrayed as part of a broader wave of departures that signal mounting challenges for the TMC as it attempts to expand beyond its Bengal base.
