Trinamool Congress splits spark Mahua Moitra’s call for united opposition

Following its defeat in the West Bengal assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has seen a wave of senior members quit or distance themselves from the party. Notable departures include former Rajya Sabha member Sushmita Dev, ex‑state minister Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, four‑term MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, actress‑turned‑politician Satabdi Roy, ex‑spokesperson Shantanu Sen, actor‑MP Deepak Adhikari (Dev), actress‑politician June Malia, MP Rachna Banerjee and longtime loyalist Firhad Hakim. Many have expressed interest in joining the BJP‑led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

TMC MP Mahua Moitra responded by accusing the defectors of disloyalty to Mamata Banerjee and condemning the BJP for using fear and central agencies to weaken the party. She warned that opposition parties must unite to survive, urging rebel leaders to resign and seek fresh mandates on BJP tickets.
