Trinamool Congress wins majority in West Bengal Bar Council elections

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) secured a significant victory in the West Bengal Bar Council elections, winning 15 out of the 23 available seats. This result follows previous electoral setbacks for the party in the state assembly elections.

The seat distribution for the council includes 3 seats for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 3 for the Left Front, and 2 for the Congress party. Among the 5 seats reserved for women, the TMC won 4, while the Congress won 1. Following Supreme Court directives, the Bar Council of India will nominate two additional female members, bringing the total membership to 25.

The election saw a total of 75 candidates contest the seats, with the TMC fielding 23 candidates and the BJP fielding 22. Notable winners included Subhashis Chakraborty of the TMC Lawyers Cell, who won by a significant margin.
