Trincomalee surgeons remove 3.1kg bladder stone

Surgeons at a hospital in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, have successfully removed a 3.1kg bladder stone from a 55-year-old man. The stone, which measured approximately 17cm in length and was described as being roughly the size of an ostrich egg, may represent a new world record for the largest bladder stone surgically removed.

The patient was originally admitted to the hospital after suffering a stroke. During his treatment, medical staff noticed he was experiencing difficulty urinating, leading to the discovery of the stone. Dr. Prahalahan Balakrishnan, who led the surgical team, estimated that the stone had likely been developing for five to ten years.

The weight of the extracted stone exceeds the current Guinness World Record of 1.9kg, which was set in Brazil in 2003. Following the procedure, the patient was reported to be in good health and remains hospitalized for continued treatment of his other medical conditions.
