Trinidad and Tobago Attorney General meets US officials on human trafficking
Attorney General John Jeremie met with a delegation from the United States Embassy to discuss strategies for combating human trafficking in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean region.
The discussions focused on the exploitation of vulnerable individuals, the movement of victims across borders, and the connections between human trafficking and transnational organized crime. Key objectives include strengthening systems for identifying and protecting victims, improving investigations and prosecutions, and addressing the socio-economic vulnerabilities that lead to exploitation.
Led by Chargé d’Affaires Philip Kern, the US delegation included representatives from the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons. The meeting emphasized that international cooperation could enhance law enforcement capabilities, facilitate intelligence sharing, and provide specialized training for investigators and prosecutors to ensure successful legal outcomes.
