Trinidad and Tobago Chief Justice announces judicial reforms

Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh has called for increased efficiency and productivity within the Trinidad and Tobago Judiciary. During the opening of the 2026/2027 Law Term, Boodoosingh urged judicial officers and staff to work harder and reduce remote work to better manage case loads and reduce delays in delivering judgments.

To improve transparency and public access, the Judiciary announced plans to begin livestreaming important court matters, starting with the Court of Appeal. This initiative aims to allow citizens to observe the highest courts' proceedings, similar to how the Privy Council and Caribbean Court of Justice operate.

Additional measures to enhance accessibility include providing online notifications for new judgments, issuing plain language summaries of significant rulings, and increasing engagement through social media. Boodoosingh also noted that the Judiciary is exploring a pilot program to deliver justice to remote communities.
