Trinidad and Tobago launches new joint security posts

Trinidad and Tobago has launched several new joint security posts as part of an intensified crime-fighting strategy involving the Police Service, the Defence Force, and Municipal Police. Three of the planned 30 micro units were operationalized on Thursday at Tarouba, Grand Bazaar, and Tacarigua.

Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro stated that the deployment of these units will be guided by analyzed crime data rather than publicizing specific locations in advance to prevent criminals from adapting. These posts are intended to serve as forward operating bases for various arms, including transit police, task forces, and the Criminal Investigations Department. The strategy also incorporates drone patrols and a directed grid patrol linked to the National Operations Centre.

Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander and Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen emphasized a more coordinated approach to law enforcement. Alexander urged community members to hold criminal elements accountable, noting that community behavior would influence whether specific areas are designated as special operations zones.
