Trinidad and Tobago marks 64th independence anniversary

Trinidad and Tobago is celebrating its 64th anniversary of independence with various events both domestically and within the Caribbean diaspora. In Jamaica, High Commissioner Deborah Thomas-Felix hosted a commemorative event at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Regional Headquarters in Mona. The gathering included members of the diplomatic corps, students, and the diaspora, focusing on cultural reflection and regional unity.

In Trinidad and Tobago, celebrations under the theme ‘One service; One people; One history’ will feature a military parade, cultural performances, and a display involving approximately 500 synchronized drones. Activities are scheduled at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port of Spain and San Fernando Hill. The festivities will include steelpan, calypso, soca, chutney, and tassa music, alongside traditional Carnival characters. Local authorities have announced increased police presence to manage traffic and ensure public safety during the festivities.
