Trinidad and Tobago Minister addresses IVCD transfer and URP rental costs

Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Khadijah Ameen has assured employees of the Insect Vector Control Division (IVCD) that their jobs are secure following the division's transfer from the Ministry of Health. During a Standing Finance Committee meeting, Ameen stated that the government is committed to supporting the division and intends to improve its vehicles, equipment, and accommodation.

Additionally, Ameen addressed the ongoing costs associated with the discontinued Unemployment Relief Programme (URP). She revealed that the government continues to pay $213,000 per month to rent the URP head office in El Socorro. The space is currently used to house a skeletal staff, store assets, and manage employment records for former workers seeking National Insurance (NIS) benefits.

Regarding payroll, the Minister noted that a new digital system has been implemented for employees under the National Programme for the Upkeep of Public Spaces (NPUPS) to ensure timely wage payments and expedite the processing of outstanding salaries.
