Trinidad and Tobago Police investigate viral domestic abuse video

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has launched an investigation into a viral social media video depicting a man verbally and physically abusing and threatening a woman inside a vehicle. A report was filed at the Couva Police Station, and officers from the Special Victims Unit, Region 2, are currently leading the inquiry.

In response to the incident, the TTPS has urged the public to stop sharing the video to protect the dignity and privacy of the woman involved. The police service also issued guidance for victims of domestic abuse, emphasizing that abuse includes not only physical violence but also intimidation, insults, and controlling behavior.

Authorities encouraged victims to report incidents at any police station or Special Victims Unit, noting that officers are trained to handle such matters with sensitivity and confidentiality. The TTPS recommended that victims maintain safety plans, keep emergency contacts accessible, and preserve evidence such as threatening messages or recordings to assist in future investigations.
