Trinidad and Tobago schools to reopen Monday despite ongoing repairs

Education Minister Dr. Michael Dowlath has confirmed that all schools across the eight educational districts in Trinidad and Tobago are expected to open for the new term on Monday.

While some schools are still undergoing repairs, Dowlath stated that ongoing maintenance will not prevent students from starting the term. The government has increased the number of school repair projects to over 350 this year, managed by the National Maintenance Training and Security Company Ltd (MTS).

Focus areas for these repairs include washrooms, sewer and electrical systems, water storage, roofing, and classroom furniture. In cases where work remains unfinished, specific areas will be cordoned off with safety signs to ensure student security. MTS has been tasked with working 24-hour shifts over the weekend to address emergency repairs and ensure facilities are ready for the students' return.
