Trinidad and Tobago vanadium ambitions face resource concerns

Trinidad and Tobago’s plans to revive the former ArcelorMittal steel plant at Point Lisas have raised concerns regarding the feasibility of vanadium production. The mineral is highly valued for its use in specialty steel, aerospace applications, and large-scale energy storage batteries.

Metallurgist Professor Clement Imbert has questioned the country’s ability to produce vanadium domestically, suggesting that Trinidad and Tobago lacks the necessary capacity and would likely need to import raw materials for processing. Additionally, questions remain regarding whether the nation possesses sufficient energy capacity to support such ambitious industrial plans.
