Trinidad tribunal dismisses case against Dr. Conrad Murray

A disciplinary tribunal appointed by the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago has dismissed a complaint seeking to revoke or suspend the medical license of Dr. Conrad Murray. The decision allows Murray to continue practicing locally.

The dismissal was not based on the merits of the case but on concerns regarding procedural fairness. The tribunal ruled that the former chairman, Dr. Ian Ramnarine, had improperly approached a sole witness to obtain a statement while serving as chairman. This contact created a “real possibility of bias” that compromised the integrity of the proceedings. Dr. Ramnarine subsequently resigned from the tribunal.

The original complaint, filed in June 2018, followed Murray’s 2011 conviction for involuntary manslaughter in Los Angeles related to the 2009 death of Michael Jackson. The Medical Board sought action under the Medical Board Act, which allows for disciplinary measures against practitioners convicted of offenses elsewhere that would be punishable locally.
