Trinidadian families seek accountability for US boat strike deaths

Families of two Trinidadian men, Chad Joseph and Rishi Samaroo, are demanding accountability from the United States one year after their disappearance. The men were reportedly killed on October 14, 2025, during a US military missile strike on a vessel returning to Trinidad and Tobago from Venezuela. The attack also resulted in the deaths of four other individuals.

Supported by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the families are pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit in Massachusetts. They contend that Joseph and Samaroo were fishermen and farm workers rather than the narco-terrorists targeted by the US military's campaign against small boats in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific oceans.

The United Nations has noted that these US strikes on alleged drug boats may constitute ‘crimes against humanity.’
