Multiple shootings leave dead and wounded in Guayaquil, Ecuador
On 23 June 2024 a series of gun attacks struck several neighborhoods of Guayaquil, Ecuador. In the Cristo del Consuelo sector two men were shot dead after assailants on motorcycles opened fire. The same day, a coordinated ambush on a Kia vehicle on the island of Trinitaria left gym instructor John Tony Delgado Aurea and Andrea Briggitte Figueroa Velasco dead; the driver and a passenger were injured. Police say the shooters shouted, “To the woman, go ahead,” and fled on motorcycles.
Additional incidents were reported elsewhere in the city. In Mucho Lote 1 a man was killed by gunmen on a yellow tricycle, and in Los Esteros two people were found dead inside a red car after a multi‑motorcycle attack. In the neighboring province of Santa Elena, a 25‑year‑old pregnant woman was shot in the face at the La Libertad market; she and her unborn child died despite emergency care.
Authorities have cordoned the scenes, collected forensic evidence, and launched investigations to identify the perpetrators, who appear to have used motorcycles to maneuver quickly through the city.
