Triple Rock Brewery to close after 40 years in Berkeley
Triple Rock Brewery and Alehouse, a landmark institution in Berkeley, California, has announced it will permanently close at the end of 2026. Founded in 1985 by brothers John and Reid Martin, the brewpub opened to the public in March 1986 and is recognized as the oldest continuously operating brewpub in the United States.
The decision to shutter the business comes as the founders approach retirement. The brewery has faced industry-wide challenges, including a downturn in alcohol sales and the lack of a family successor interested in taking over operations. Over its 40-year history, the establishment has served more than 10 million pints and served as a training ground for many brewers who later founded their own companies.
To celebrate its legacy, the brewery plans to host special events through December, including retro-themed nights and releases of classic brews. The Martin brothers, who own the building, intend to either lease or sell the property following the closure.
