Tripoli: Elderly woman kidnapped after phone scam
Authorities in Tripoli are investigating a serious kidnapping case involving an elderly woman that began as a telephone fraud attempt. On October 1, unknown individuals contacted the woman at her second home in a village within the Tripoli Municipality, claiming a relative had been involved in a car accident and requesting money to resolve the matter.
After the woman identified the call as a scam and ended communication, the perpetrators returned posing as police officers. They convinced her to enter a vehicle under the pretext of transporting her to a police station to provide a statement and assist in catching the scammers. Instead, she was taken from Arcadia to Attica.
The victim managed to contact her son while in Attica, who then alerted the police. The woman was located and picked up by her son, but she remains hospitalized in a state of shock and has been unable to provide a full statement to authorities. Investigators are examining whether the primary motive was extortion.
