Tripoli labor unions protest rising costs and demand wage corrections

The Union of Workers and Employees in the North held a protest at Jamal Abdel Nasser Square in Tripoli to demand relief from rising living costs. Participants, including public and private sector employees and bus drivers, blocked access roads to the square during the demonstration.

Union President Shadi El Sayed issued a warning regarding the protest, calling for immediate monthly subsidies for public drivers, transportation allowances, and end-of-service compensation. He noted that the Minister of Labor has promised a meeting with economic bodies and the General Labor Union to discuss wage corrections and compensation.

The protest also highlighted grievances regarding workers at the Tripoli water authority and neglected rights of certain labor groups. El Sayed stated that if demands are not met or a clear timeline is not provided by Wednesday, protesters intend to escalate their actions by taking to the streets and cutting more roads.
