Tripura administration conducts land verification near Ashabari border outpost

The Tripura district administration has launched land verification and demarcation exercises near the Ashabari Border Outpost in the Sonamura subdivision. This initiative follows a November 2 clash where Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were allegedly attacked during a confrontation with local residents.

A joint team consisting of BSF personnel, police, and revenue department officers, including Tehsildars and Revenue Inspectors, visited the area to identify land boundaries and examine ownership documents. The exercise aims to address concerns regarding the alleged illegal occupation of government land and unauthorized settlements in the sensitive border region.

Preliminary findings suggest that some residents and shopkeepers may lack valid land deeds, and certain structures are suspected to be located on government property. The administration intends for this drive to strengthen security, prevent illegal encroachment, and mitigate risks related to infiltration and law-and-order issues in the area adjoining the international border.
