Tripura: Cattle trader allegedly lynched by mob
A Muslim cattle trader, Jalilur Rahman, was allegedly lynched by a mob in Babger village, Tripura, on September 2. The attack occurred after residents accused Rahman of stealing cattle.
Rahman’s family disputes the theft allegations, stating he had legally purchased two cattle from a local farmer, Anukul Debnath, on the previous day and was merely collecting them as arranged. According to witnesses, the assault took place around 4:00 to 4:30 am. Rahman’s wife and father-in-law were also reportedly assaulted during the incident.
Rahman was transported to Kalyanpur Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Police have registered an FIR at the Kalyanpur police station and are investigating the circumstances, including questions regarding the location of Rahman’s motorcycle.
