Tripura Chief Minister inaugurates Goddess Durga Carnival

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the fifth edition of the Goddess Durga Carnival, known as ‘Maayer Gomon’, in Agartala. The event, organized by the state’s Information and Cultural Affairs Department, took place at the Ujjayanta Palace premises in front of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ Higher Secondary School.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Saha stated that the carnival has evolved beyond a traditional idol immersion procession into a significant expression of the state’s royal heritage, cultural diversity, and communal harmony. He noted that the event serves to strengthen social bonds between tribal and non-tribal communities while providing a platform to showcase Tripura’s cultural identity on national and international stages.

The Chief Minister highlighted the historical significance of the location, noting that immersion processions traditionally commenced from this site during the princely era. He remarked that the modern carnival successfully blends traditional devotion with contemporary creativity, including advanced lighting and sound systems.
