Tripura election panel begins process for urban local body polls

The State Election Commission (SEC) of Tripura has begun preparations for elections to 21 urban local bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation. These elections are scheduled to be conducted by December of this year.

The SEC has released a draft list of 784 polling stations across 13 Municipal Councils and seven Nagar Panchayats. The Agartala Municipal Corporation contains the highest concentration of stations with 439. The commission will accept claims and objections to the draft list until September 21, with the final list of polling stations expected to be published on September 25.

The urban local bodies serve approximately nine lakh residents across eight districts, with over four lakh residing in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
